The Paint Correction Process

Wash and Decontamination

The vehicle is given a thorough two-bucket hand wash followed by iron fallout remover and a clay bar treatment. This strips all bonded contaminants from the paint surface so the polishing machine is working on clean, bare clear coat rather than grinding grit into the paint.

Paint Depth Assessment

A paint depth gauge is used across every panel to measure how much clear coat is present. This tells us exactly how aggressively we can work the paint and which areas need extra caution. Skipping this step is how detailers burn through clear coat and leave cars worse than they found them.

Machine Polishing

Using a dual-action or rotary polisher with the appropriate compound and pad combination, each panel is worked methodically under high-intensity workshop lighting. The number of passes and the product selection depend on which tier of correction you have chosen and what the paint assessment revealed.

IPA Wipe-Down and Inspection

Once polishing is complete, every panel is wiped down with an isopropyl alcohol solution to remove any polishing oils that can mask the true finish. This is where the real result becomes visible. The vehicle is inspected under multiple light sources including a swirl-finder light to confirm the level of correction achieved.

Protection Application and Final Check

A finishing sealant, carnauba wax or ceramic top coat is applied to lock in the corrected surface and protect the clear coat from early recontamination. The vehicle is given a final full inspection before you are contacted to collect it from the West Ryde workshop.

Paint correction is priced across three tiers: Single Stage, Two Stage and Multi-Stage. The right tier depends on the severity of the swirl marks, scratches and oxidation on your specific vehicle. Get a free quote and Josh will assess your paint and recommend the tier that makes sense for your car.
A Single Stage correction on an average-sized vehicle typically takes half a day. A Two Stage correction usually runs a full day. A Multi-Stage correction on a vehicle with heavy damage or a larger vehicle like an SUV or ute can run into a second day. You will be given a clear timeframe when you book so you can plan your drop-off and collection.
The correction itself is permanent in the sense that the scratches and swirl marks that have been removed are gone. How quickly new marks appear depends entirely on how the car is washed and stored afterward. Applying a ceramic coating over corrected paint significantly extends how long it stays in that condition by adding a sacrificial protective layer on top of the clear coat.
Yes. The single most important thing is ditching automated car washes. Touchless washes are acceptable but any brush or cloth contact wash will reintroduce swirl marks over time. A proper hand wash technique using a two-bucket method or a quality foam cannon is the standard way to keep corrected paint looking clean without damaging it. Josh can walk you through the basics when you collect your vehicle.

Paint correction actually removes the damaged clear coat layer using a machine polisher and abrasive compounds, which means the scratches are physically gone rather than hidden. The results are dramatically more significant and they last.
Paint correction removes scratches and marks that are within the clear coat layer. If a scratch has gone through the clear coat into the colour coat or the primer underneath, it cannot be polished out. Those scratches require touch-up paint or panel repair. During your assessment at the workshop, any scratches beyond the scope of correction will be pointed out before any work begins.
